Warning! Achtung! Attenzione!

Thousands of years from now archaeologists will find remnants of inflateable, arm waving figures like the one above.  They’re likely to come to one of two conclusions as to the purpose of the relics.
1. They were warning signs placed there to alert travelers of the horrible dangers (physical or financial) that lurked inside.
2. They were mechanical Sirens used to lure weary travelers to their death.
The latter camp will be closer on the story, but both will be right about the inherent dangers represented by the signs.
